Cow enjoys brief taste of freedom but is roped by NY police

A cow has sent police on a wild chase through the busy streets of New York City after breaking free from a slaughterhouse. Members of NYPD’s Emergency Services Unit cornered the cow in a parking garage and wrangled it with a rope-rancher style.

The brown and white bovine trotted across the road, and past shops and restaurants in a busy neighbourhood in Queens.

Only one day earlier, officers with the same precinct were called in to capture a goat that had escaped from its owner’s home.

The cow escaped from a slaughterhouse in the area and was being returned there.

Queens resident Atiya Lilly Gassaway has started a petition though, calling for the cow to be spared. “All Officers safe”, the tweet said. “Thank you all for your patience”.

Police say that the cow escaped around 12:15 p.m. from Archer Halal Live Poultry, located at 165th Street near Archer Avenue.

The cow’s quest for freedom was brief.
