Cowboy golf wins Columbus Regional title

The Michigan State men’s golf team’s season came to an end on Wednesday in the third round of the NCAA Columbus Regional.

In the Columbus Regional, top-ranked Oklahoma State won by eight strokes.

Baylor sophomore Cooper Dossey and senior Matthew Perrine both shot 1-under 71 in the final round to top the Bears.

Young now stands in 11 place on the individual leaderboard at one-under par for the tournament.

Senior Kristoffer Ventura carded a 74 during his third round to finish at 215 and tied for 13th place, while freshman Austin Eckroat signed for his second consecutive 74 to stand at 218 and alone in 19th place.

Freshman Frank Lindwall shot an even-par 72 and sophomore Tripp Kinney shot a one-over-par 73 to round out the Cyclones’ scoring.

Carson Bacha of York, Pennsylvania, fired an even-par 71 at Roanoke Country Club to capture medalist honors in the final boys 15-18 qualifier for the 35th Scott Robertson Memorial Junior golf tournament, which will be held Friday through Sunday at Roanoke Country Club. The Wildcats were 10 shots back of the fifth spot heading into the final round of the NCAA Bryan Regional.

Stanford shot a final-round best 277, but were edged by Kansas 844-845 on Wednesday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

The Bison finished with a 54-hole, 22-over-par 886 team score with rounds of 297, 295 and 294. She also owns tournament program records in Low Round Score (70), Low Round vs. Par (-2), and Low 54-Hole Score (219).

After hitting a 330-yard drive to setup his eagle on the par-4 18th hole, McDaniel was met at his ball by Craig. Joining Miller in the top-20 was junior J.D. Hughes who closed with a 72 to finish solo 18th. He led the Seminoles with five birdies, including his big one on the eighth hole, and tied for seventh overall at 5-under. Teams that did not advance to the NCAA Championship include Florida State (-2), Virginia (-1), Pepperdine (E), Nevada (+3), San Diego State (+6), UMKC (+17), Sam Houston State (+24), Navy (+57) and Prairie View A&M (+79). Texas Tech, Iowa State and Baylor also have qualified for the NCAA Championships.

“Once we get to match play, I think we have some of the best firepower in the entire nation”, Madey said. “I am proud of how confident he played throughout the tournament”.

Florida and UNF will be among 30 teams in the NCAA Championships on May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. The Aggies return to the NCAA Championship for the first time in four seasons after stringing together six straight trips from 2009-2014.
