The Eagles traded Sanchez to Broncos this offseason but Sanchez wasn’t able to secure the starting job and was immediately released on Saturday when the Denver cut the roster down to final 53-men.

Cowboys have signed veteran QB Mark Sanchez and is expected to backup Dak Prescott. Nearly six months later, Sanchez was the odd man out, with a $4.5 million salary, three turnovers in 46 preseason snaps and no place on the depth chart. It wouldn’t be an National Football League season without their being some eyes watching Dallas. Just like that, the Broncos started to shop Sanchez, but no teams went biting.

John Elway revamped his offense in the wake of the Denver Broncos’ third title, shedding both tight ends and three offensive linemen who started in the Super Bowl while bidding farewell to Peyton Manning and his longtime backup Brock Osweiler. Sanchez, however, was beaten out by second-year pro Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Northwestern. Tony Romo remained on the active roster amid uncertainly on how long he will be out with a broken bone in his back sustained in a preseason game.

Sanchez spent the first four years of his career with the New York Jets, making two appearances in the AFC Championship game.

Sanchez could end up playing a prominent role for Dallas in their 2016 season.

The next time Mark Sanchez fumbles the ball it could be as the quarterback of America’s Team. But he’s been here and he’s been in big games, he’s been on the sideline, he’s been around, he knows the feel of the regular season.

The team announced the moves after the 4 p.m. Saturday deadline.

Jenkins was released five days after the Redskins signed him.

Safety Shiloh Keo was placed on the suspended list.

Sanchez wasn’t the only veteran released by the Broncos. Minnesota may have been one of them but the Vikings made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire Sam Bradford, who Sanchez backed up previous year in Philadelphia. Romo will be requiring a few months off, approximately six to 10 weeks, in order to recuperate from the injury and will put rookie fourth-round pick Dak Presscott on the starting lineup, multiple sources reported. The Dallas Cowboys saw potential in Sanchez.
