Cowboys Announce Tony Romo Has Broken Bone In His Back
With Romo now out of the lineup, the Cowboys will turn to rookie Dak Prescott out of Mississippi State as their new starting quarterback. He then had an MRI on Friday, leading to the discovery of a broken bone in his back.

Some believe Romo, 36, will never again play a full National Football League season. He did not, however, did not give a timetable for Romo’s return. To be clear, Jason Garrett hasn’t ruled Romo out for the season opener, so we’ll just have to wait for more information.
Romo told reporters after the game that he felt fine when he initially took the hit from Avril. A tweet from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, however, implies this injury might in fact be very serious and could cost Romo as many as 6-10 weeks.
Without Romo, the Cowboys could start Dak Prescott, who has done well in the preseason.
Romo lobbied to be put back in the game but the Cowboys decided against it.
Sad news for Romo and the Cowboys organization.
Prescott was elevated to the backup job when incumbent Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in a training camp practice.
The Cowboys will start the season with three players suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The coach would not say if it is the transverse process fractures Romo suffered in 2014 that forced him to miss a game. He’s even scored two running touchdowns and has no interceptions. His latest injury occurred on the third play of Thursday night’s exhibition game at Seattle.

Romo exited Thursday’s preseason game against the Seahawks after going down hard in the first quarter and did not return.
