Cowboys’ Carr breaks hand, Bryant out with hamstring strain

“I take a lot of pride in being able to fight through whatever is going on to suit up on Sunday”, he said.

“There is obviously concern that was verbalized by the organization that we’re going to have to manage that situation and I think this will let him, let [athletic trainer] Britt Brown and our training staff and our strength and conditioning staff work with him and get him into even a better place”.

Two days after suffering a hamstring injury that some believed happened when he dunked the ball over the goalpost during 7-on-7 drills, the Cowboys say receiver Dez Bryant: (1) didn’t injure the muscle while dunking; and (2) won’t be prohibited from dunking.

Bryant told WFAA Sports he wants to play, but it’s one of those things you have to be smart about.

Carr, who is set for surgery Monday in the Dallas area, was hurt engaging a receiver during practice Thursday.

Garrett did not put a timetable on Carr’s return but did say he expects him back sooner rather than later.

Carr, 29, has never missed a game in his seven-year career and has started every game since being selected in the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. And the Cowboys are bringing 2012 top 10 pick Morris Claiborne along slowly after his season was cut short last year by a torn patellar tendon in his left knee.

Tyler Patmon, one of the surprises of last year’s camp, might be slowed by a hip issue, leaving Corey White, Robert Steeples, Joel Ross and Jason Wilson to get most of the work the rest of this week.

“Dez is a passionate guy and he loves football”, coach Jason Garrett said, via Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Running back Joseph Randle has been healthy all of camp, solidifying his status as the front-runner to replace NFL rushing champion DeMarco Murray.

Another storyline to follow for the Dallas Cowboys is the progress of backup running back Lance Dunbar who at the moment is in a walking boot for an ankle injury. Lache Seastrunk, a second-year player, and undrafted rookie Gus Johnson will get plenty of carries against the Chargers. “I have a feel for what takes to get prepared for games. And we’ll see if they have”.
