Cowboys coach Garrett won’t rule Romo out of opener

Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to lead the charge for Dallas to start the season.

Jason Garrett announced on Saturday that Tony Romo had an MRI taken of his back after sustaining an injury on the third play of Dallas’ third preseason game on Thursday night.

According to multiple reports, the veteran quarterback Tony Romo could miss 6-10 weeks with a compression fracture.

As I reported during their preseason game against Seattle, there was a moment in the game where Tony Romo was clutching his back and was pulled out of the match.

Given his outstanding preseason work, it appears the Cowboys are in better hands this year than they were in 2015, when they went 1-11 in the 12 games Romo missed with his collarbone injuries.

Rookie fourth-round draft pick Dak Prescott will take over until Romo returns.

Prescott was elevated to the backup job when incumbent Kellen Moore broke his right ankle in a training camp practice.

In 2014, Romo played with two transverse-process fractures after missing just one game.

Couple the possibility of Romo’s absence with the fact the Cowboys will have three defensive starters suspended, and the makings of a strong start to the 2016 season and the McAdoo era for the Giants are there.

According to National Football League rumors, the injury is in the same area as Romo’s previous back injuries but a different one.

“Just as you would expect from him, the competitive nature to get back and his concern for the team”, Jones said.

If rookie quarterback Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys is short on anything, it isn’t confidence.

Garrett informed his players of Romo’s injury after the team’s conditioning run. “I think everybody is wanting to get their hands around what exactly we’re dealing with”. He also had 199 passing yards on 12 of 15 completions with two touchdowns in a 41-14 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Kaepernick sat on the team’s bench Friday night during the anthem before the Niners played host to the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game. We could soon find out whether Prescott can maintain his stunning level of play in the regular season. Successful or not, there’s a reason the Cowboys are more valuable than any other sports franchise in the world: They’re interesting.
