Royce West sued Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant for allegedly trashing the lawmaker’s rental home, the football player is striking back. It also claims West did not disclose pertinent facts to Bryant, calling him “deliberately silent”. One of those associates is David Wells, another former Bryant advisor who Bryant severed ties with in 2015.

“Many of these payments stopped at Wells and/or West, but never reached Bryant”, the lawsuit states, while adding, in pursuit of additional damages: “Such malicious and reckless conduct justifies an award of exemplary damages in addition to the actual damages incurred by Bryant for which it seeks recovery”.

According to the lawsuit, West, a Texas state senator, “capitalized on Bryant’s notoriety and hard-earned success to improperly line his own pocket and those of his business associates”.

“These allegations are lies and frivolous”, he said. “Mr. Bryant needs to take responsibility for the damage done to my house and not attempt to avert focus away from his actions by making incredulous accusations against me”.

Bryant alleges Wells “absconded” with more than $200,000 that is owed to him, while West’s law firm was paid more than $300,000 through the endorsement deals.

Calls to Bryant’s attorney and the Cowboys were not immediately returned.

According to the suit, when West contacted Bryant and his legal representative about reimbursement for the damages, he was met with a legal threat.

Texas State Senator Royce West is suing Bryant for $100,000 to $200,000. “I intend to file a defamation suit against Mr. Bryant and his attorney for these accusations”.

“West proceeded with conscious indifference to Bryant’s rights and welfare”, the lawsuit says.

Per Bryant’s attorney Kenneth Broughton, West is not entitled to any damages, in part, because of “the doctrine of unclean hands”.
