Cowboys draft QB for 1st time since 2009 in Dak Prescott

Cowboys selected Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott with the No. 135 overall pick in the 2016 draft. Prescott’s transition to working more under the center is going to be key to whether Prescott can eventually be a starter in Dallas because Garrett doesn’t install much movement for the quarterback in his offense. He visited the Cowboys and also worked out privately for them. Prescott is just the third quarterback drafted by Dallas this century – Quincy Carter and Stephen McGee were the others, and Prescott is clearly more talented than those two players.

“In talking to coaches and NFL scouts, they’ve all raved about Prescott’s leadership qualities and football intelligence”, Miller wrote. I think I’m the smartest quarterback that’s coming in this class. I would love to go on the board and go head to head with anybody else.

The Dallas Cowboys have another candidate for the backup job behind quarterback Tony Romo.

The Cowboys took Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott with the fourth overall pick before getting Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith and Nebraska defensive tackle Maliek Collins in the second and third rounds.

Even though they waited to take one, the Cowboys were definitely prepared to fill the need exposed last season when Romo broke his collarbone twice. He was a first-team All-Big 12 pick by The Associated Press in 2012. And he maintained that he would be comfortable with Moore as the team’s backup.

It’s nearly too easy to say that Jerry Jones’ team chronically refuses to shy away from problems like that – but it does.
