Cowboys’ Mincey in camp after brief holdout over contract
The exact numbers are not known, but the deal includes at least an extra $500,000 that will push Mincey’s salary to at least $2 million this season.

Dallas coach Jason Garrett said Mincey would get lighter work after missing the first three days of camp, including the first padded practice Saturday.
“[Mincey’s] a player under contract and we expect all players under contract to be here”, Jones told the media during the opening press conference for the Cowboys training camp (via the Cowboys official website) on Wednesday.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill, both sides are discussing a two-year contract.
After recording six sacks last season and being 11th in Pro Football Focus’s Pass Rushing Productivity among 4-3 defensive ends last season, Mincey has shown that he’s clearly an asset on the Cowboys defense. Instead of forcing Dallas’ front office into action, it now appears the Cowboys sack leader from last year has caved in to their demands. “He’s physically tough, and he plays hard”. But his role is more of a question this season because the Cowboys picked defensive ends in the second round of the past two drafts and signed an established pass rusher in Greg Hardy in free agency. You want that on your football team.
Unfortunately for Mincey, whether he’s in camp or not he doesn’t have a lot of leverage. And for every practice he missed, Dallas would fine him. Mincey also qualifies as “a big 2014 addition”, and even though he had the best 2014 season of the DEs now on the Cowboys roster, his age gives him the lowest future value to the organization. “We’ve talked to him about it. We certainly won’t be talking to him about it if he’s not here…When he signed that contract last year, his representative was there, he was all for it and he signed it. It’s not a long-term deal”. We played hard. We played tough. “We’ll see how he’s doing….But excited to have him here in training camp”.
At the end of the day, Mincey probably won’t make significantly more money than he is now if the Cowboys give into his demands, but he’ll likely get an added year of security from the Cowboys organization after playing very well in 2014.

“I think Jeremy has been a good player in this league for a number of years”, Garrett said.
