The Cowboys are missing important pieces to their defense, including linebacker Rolando McClain, who skipped the team’s flight to California for training camp. The second year pass rusher was already suspended the first four games of the season because of a failed drug test. It’s very disappointing, but again, it does point out the difficulty you have with addiction. “We are basically seeing where he is”. “We have got some good cases that have rewarded us. And there is no question he needs the kind of help and care he is getting right now”.

When asked if it was the team’s inclination to have McClain and Gregory on the team once their suspensions would be lifted, Jones declined to comment saying only that the team “would make those decisions as they present themselves”.
Both players will be called upon to potentially fill big roles throughout training camp and into the regular season, as Whitehead will likely serve as the team’s primary kick and punt returner, and Russell will be looking to make the team feel a little better about the overall situation at defensive end. Jones has said he doesn’t expect Gregory to be in California.

However, Gregory violated the league’s substance abuse policy for a second time this offseason which is why he received a longer suspension. We have a number of great success stories over the last few years of guys fitting into that culture. Per the National Football League, the policy for this year is still being finalized and the fine won’t be tabulated until the end of the season.
