Cowboys put QB Kellen Moore on season-ending injured list
Romo suffered a compression fracture of the L1 vertebra on the third play of the Cowboys preseason game against Seattle last Thursday. The Cowboys were 1-11 in games without Romo a year ago and 1-13 without him over the last three seasons.

Prescott explained what Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said when he first informed him of Romo’s injury. The is the time, right now, for Dallas to hand the keys to this kid and finally let go of Tony Romo.
Initial reports were that Romo would be out about 6-10 weeks.
The latest chapter of the Tony Romo Injury Saga is playing out just like the original script of 2015. And that would be fine, if the Cowboys had a decent succession plan in place. Romo is projected to be out for the next 6-10 weeks and Cowboys fans were not happy, so they let Cliff know about it on social media & he doesn’t approve of it. Even though they went 1-11 last season with Romo sidelined twice by a broken left collarbone. The deadline for teams to get under the 53-man limit is on Saturday, which means they’ll have to cut about 22 players from their current 75-man roster.
This year, surprisingly, there is hope. Dak Prescott will undoubtedly be on the active roster, but Tony Romo may not.
But it has nothing to do with the gaudy stats – 454 yards passing with five touchdowns and no interceptions – Prescott has compiled in his first three preseason games and everything to do with his demeanor and attitude. The Cowboys can fashion an offense together for a while. He has the ability to stand in there and fire downfield, and also has enough athleticism to play quarterback in the NFL.
Garrett said Romo’s rehab will consist of rest and immobility but the coach refused to rule him out for the September 11 season opener against the New York Giants. If he can play like he has in the preseason – admittedly, teams run less complex schemes and don’t play their starters as long before the regular season starts – that should be doable. Dallas owner Jerry Jones hasn’t given any indication of the Cowboys will try to sign a veteran quarterback prior to the season opener. Prescott certainly has the tools to be a good National Football League quarterback down the road and the Cowboys will likely get a look at their future in the first few weeks of the regular season with Prescott under center.

There’s another silver lining, too. Romo said, “I told coach afterwards, that’s one you don’t want to take when someone’s on top of you when you’re sliding and he crunches you”.
