Cowboys QB Romo has small fracture in back
Had you fooled, didn’t they? You thought the Dallas Cowboys were done.

Still, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was clearly disappointed by Elliott’s action.
In an interview, Elliot exclaimed, “I try to think of it just like another game”, Elliott told ESPN. I could have come back in, but it was (Garrett’s) decision… Tony Romo is still alive.
“At the moment when you go down, you crunch so your back gets squished, I guess you could say“, Romo said in describing the feeling of the hit.
“That was a ideal timed situation”, Romo said, brushing aside all insinuations of his growing vulnerability.
Selected in the fourth round out of Mississippi State in this year’s draft, Prescott was expected to begin his National Football League career holding the clipboard behind Romo. But during the call Garrett said there’s no timetable but that the quarterback would play this season. Rather, it was a test.
Suh left the game with an ankle injury during the first half. While Jason Garrett wouldn’t put a timeline on Romo’s return, he is looking at 6-10 weeks to recover. “In that regard I feel very lucky that I could hold up and keep going”. The fact that he was still recovering from the broken collarbone and had previous back surgeries earlier in his career lead Dallas to err on the side of caution in bringing him back into a meaningless preseason game.
That was not an NFC East-type quarterback collision Thursday night. That was a fender bender.
“I’m aware of it”.
Romo was forced from the pocket by a blitz from K.J. Wright.
The third play. The first time he tried to scramble. He was crunched by Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril from the blind side.
“I just think everyone had a scare”, Jones said. I was a little surprised the first time, but he has a lot of courage for that.
“He was campaigning to get back into the game”.
Move along, in other words.
That 81-yard drive culminated in a 17-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Jason Witten.
Prescott, a fourth round pick out of Mississippi State, has been one of the most impressive performers in pre-season.
From there, Greenberg – a lifelong Jets fan – then jumped to Geno Smith as a possibility considering the quarterback controversy brewing in NY with second year man Bryce Petty forcing his way into the backup QB conversation.
Jones repeated Thursday that he has no plans to acquire another quarterback.
Dallas can breathe a sigh of relief. The Cowboys announced on Saturday that Romo has a broken bone in his back and will miss a good portion of the season. He’s only played 16.
During the 2014 season, he again sustained a back injury during a game against Washington.
The whole thing seemed surreal. He winced and reached for his back as if something had been injured again. Many fans were concerned that they were going to fall asleep. And then of course we started the game off with him split out and saw him as a receiver and of course his play without having the ball is what has made him special. Prescott has been great in each of the three games he’s played, and even coming off the bench in a different role last night, simply looks unflappable.

Multiple reports have since surfaced for when Cowboys fans should expect their franchise quarterback to return.
