Cowboys QB Romo out 6-10 weeks

The Dallas Cowboys announced that MRI results show the hit Tony Romo took Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks resulted in a broken bone in his back. Jason Garrett revealed that Romo broke a bone in his back and sources claim that he could be out from 6-10 weeks.

Cliff Avril knocks Dallas quarterback Tony Romo out of the game with this sack on the third play of the game Thursday.

In Romo’s absence, the Cowboys turn to Mississippi State product and 2016 fourth-round draft choice Dak Prescott who has had a very strong rookie preseason. Romo expressed relief that he was OK afterward even though he was removed from the game as a precautionary measure given his history of back problems. “We’ve heard a wide range of possibilities in terms of when he would be able to play”.

If Prescott looks like a rookie, and Romo is able to return in time for a playoff run, we might table this discussion for two-three years in the future.

Later in the game, when asked about the status of Romo, owner Jerry Jones said Romo “is not injured”.

Initially Romo believed that he was healthy enough to return, but it seems the 36-year-old could instead be facing a lengthy absence this season. He has completed 39-of-50 for 454 yards (9.1 yards per attempt) and five touchdowns, good for a passer rating of 137.8.

Romo has been dogged by injuries in recent times, he played in just four games last season after twice breaking his collarbone. If this indeed is an injury that takes Romo away from the game for more than half a season, it probably will mean the Cowboys are finally moving on from him, be it to Prescott or someone else taking over at some point.
