Cowboys QB Romo out for season with collarbone injury

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that quarterback Tony Romo’s season is done after he fractured his left collarbone for the second time this season.

Romo went down for the first time this season in Week 2 when Philadelphia linebacker Jordan Hicks landed on top of the quarterback and drove his left shoulder into the turf. It looks like they will get a high spot, but that is little comfort for a team that had such high hopes entering the season.

The Dallas Cowboys lost starting quarterback Tony Romo to a likely season-ending collarbone injury just one week after he returned to help the team snap a seven-game losing streak.

In their next five drives – which spanned the second and third quarters – the Cowboys picked up just two first downs. “Now you’ve got to try for that and that’s what we’re here for, to try and do and be a part of a story like that”.

The 35-year-old Romo will not need surgery after getting hurt in the third quarter of Thursday’s 33-14 loss to Carolina.

The Cowboys, who Forbes ranked as the world’s most valuable sports franchise in September with a value of $4 billion, are last in the four-team NFC East division with a 3-8 record and five regular season games remaining. All they had to do was overcome the three teams ahead of them in the standings and keep Romo’s fragile collarbone from crumbling into dust.

When Tony Romo broke his clavicle the first time, it really set the Cowboys back and they would have to scratch and claw their way if they wanted to make noise this season. “I’m disappointed in costing our team a good chance to stay in the game early”. They depend on me to go out there and perform at a certain level. “There is always risk when you come back like that, but I still think that it was something everybody was comfortable with as far as when he returned”, Stephen said.

“Going to the ground you could hear something happen”, Romo said. “It’s just a disappointing day”. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said initial X-rays were negative but Romo is expected to be examined again by doctors on Friday. He missed the last 15 games with Carolina last season because of his arrest in a domestic violence case…. “There is no evidence we brought him back too soon.”.

Carolina quarterback Cam Newton turned in a stellar performance, connecting on 16 of 27 passes for 183 yards and rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown. Dan Bailey had field goals of 21 and 48 yards for Dallas.
