FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys have not put a timetable on Tony Romo’s possible return, with coach Jason Garrett being so optimistic that he wouldn’t even rule out the quarterback for the September 11 season opener against the New York Giants. If Romo is healthy around the Cowboys week 7 bye week, that will be enough time to see if Dak has ability to be the Cowboys franshise quarterback.

He also had a flawless passer rating in their game against the Miami Dolphins, so everyone in Dallas, including Jones, seems ready to start 2016 with Prescott as their starting quarterback.
“He will come back”, Jones said. “This is nowhere near the issue he had a year ago (with the broken clavicle), not even in the same league as far as we’re concerned”.
Romo is 36 years old and is approaching his 14th season.
Romo is wearing a back brace as part of his recovery. “There was disappointment, but he had a very genuine positiveness about the nature of the injury as to how it relates to his back in general”.
“I don’t know if this stuff will ever hit me”, said Prescott, set to be the first rookie quarterback to start the opener for Dallas since Quincy Carter 15 years ago.
Starting for the Dallas Cowboys on September 11 against the New York Giants will be a first for Dak Prescott, but not entirely.
The next question is whether Prescott plays in the preseason finale against Houston on Thursday night.
After staying on the turf initially, Romo walked off on his own.
Coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t say whether Prescott will be held out against the Texans.

I think the players see that, and he’s done a good job throughout training camp, learning the offense and executing plays and done a good job in the preseason. When the regular season arrives and defensive schemes are no longer vanilla, Rocky Road or Moose Tracks, we’ll get a better look of just how far along Prescott is in his progression as a professional quarterback. You nearly feel a sensation as if someone gave you a stinger in your shoulder. It just feels hot for a second. That dissipates after a minute and you’re OK. He felt fine and seemingly hadn’t suffered a serious injury. “It just takes a little bit”.
In addition, in the spring of 2013 Romo underwent back surgery to remove a cyst.
But Garrett had said on Saturday that he is confident about Romo returning to action this year.

Garrett said that Romo was on a “day-to day” basis. “We need to win football games and when Tony gets back, then certainly it will be great to have him back and it’s unfortunate he’s not here right now”.
