Cowboys fans held their breath when Romo went down during their preseason matchup with Seahawks this past Thursday, but likely felt they could take a sigh of relief when they heard from both the coach and player that it was not believed to be serious.

An MRI on Friday revealed Romo’s back injury is much worse than anticipated, Garrett announced Saturday, two days after he was knocked out of the game against the Seattle Seahawks.
“When I saw him go down and his spine crunch forward, I was anxious for his health”, said former National Football League player John Michaels, who is also a Dallas-based pain and spine injury specialist.
With Romo on the bench most of last season with a back injury, the Cowboys suffered through a 4-12 season.
Dak Prescott will be the Week 1 starter, as the Dallas Cowboys are merely searching for a veteran backup in Tony Romo’s absence, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Dez Bryant and Tony Romo played one full game together previous year. Romo was able to walk off without assistance, though, was able to throw on the side and tried to convince Garrett he was healthy enough to return to the game.

Romo is wearing a back brace as part of his recovery.
“It’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had”, Garrett said. The fourth-round pick has impressed in the preseason and is already being labeled as the Cowboys’ quarterback of the future. We just called it something different.

“Dak has done a nice job really at every turn starting back at training camp”, Garrett said. Prescott should be owned in all formats, and has good value in Daily Fantasy leagues.
