Cowboys quarterback Romo has broken bone in back

DALLAS-The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo’s season is in jeopardy after a MRI revealed that the quarterback has a broken bone in his back.

Asked if Romo would be back, Garrett said there’s no timetable but that the quarterback would play this season.

The Cowboys will sign a veteran to replace Showers as the No. 2 quarterback, but it will be Prescott’s show to run Week 1 against the New York Giants.

Romo has been dogged by injuries in recent times, he played in just four games last season after twice breaking his collarbone.

Fourth-rounder Dak Prescott, arguably the brightest star from any team this preseason, now has a very real shot of entering the year as the Cowboys’ starter.

Garrett said Romo’s injury won’t end his season.

Romo was taken out of the game right after the injury.

Romo, 36, has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, suffering multiple clavicle fractures, so the back injury is a frustrating start to his 2016 season.

Garrett broke the news to the team after practice Saturday morning. “The name of the game for us has always been focusing on taking things one day at a time and also have the “next man in” mentality”.

And it appears Romo could take up a spot on the Cowboys final 53-man roster no matter what as placing him on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP) is not a possibility according to DallasCowboys.com reporter Rob Phillips. Instead of finding a backup for Tony Romo, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones elected to go with Ezekiel Elliott, as reported by CBS Sports.

The Cowboys will now turn to Prescott who has had a sensational preseason, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.

He lasted but one series on Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks.
