Cowboys release star WR Dez Bryant after 8 seasons

The Dallas Cowboys surprised the National Football League on Friday when they chose to part ways with one of the faces of their franchise, wide receiver Dez Bryant.

Here, we look back at the most memorable moments from Bryant’s Cowboys tenure.

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung and former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley also said they wanted Bryant on their teams.

Bryant wouldn’t say who the “Garrett guys” are, but he was irked at not being selected as a team captain last season. Outside of that he’s gone from a star to a fairly generic wide receiver. ESPN’s Mike Rodak said the following about the Bills potentially signing the wide receiver. Perhaps the allure of playing for the Patriots and getting a chance at a ring convinces Dez to sign on the cheap for one year.

Bryant has given everything he has to give to the Cowboys and only has two division titles to show for it, not even a conference championship game appearance among those playoff berths. The only thing the Jets couldn’t offer Bryant is a shot at the postseason. The release clears about $8.5 million in cap space. Tennessee shouldn’t bother kicking tires on Bryant though. For this to work for the Cardinals, they’d have to have a stellar draft.

Do you see the disparity in the timing of the meeting this go-around? They still need multiple receivers to help take the load off of T.Y.

Even though the Patriots released Brandin Cooks and Danny Amendola, Brady still has Gronk, Edelman and Jordan Mathews to throw too.

Like the Ravens, the Bengals know they need to make something happen with this current version of the roster and coaching staff, or else management may actually consider making substantive changes (come to think of it…).

While I wouldn’t be opposed to the Packers adding him at the right price, Bryant appears to be in decline.

Man, wouldn’t this move annoy Cowboys fans? In the last two seasons, Beasley has earned a combined 116 targets and has 111 receptions with 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns during that span.

The last move, trading for Brandin Cooks, seemed to the be the last big move the Rams would make.

The Baltimore Ravens sat out a number of high-profile wide receivers in free agency this offseason.

In this particular case, the player Adams is after doesn’t make much sense for NY.

By design, the only teams that play one another a few times a year are those that share a division.
