He suffered a brutal hit from Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril in Thursday night’s preseason game.

FRISCO, Texas-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is out with yet another back injury, and it is unknown when he will return to action, although coach Jason Garrett says he expects his team leader to play this season.
Garrett made the comments on Saturday during a conference call.
Reports suggest Romo could miss around half of the upcoming National Football League season but Garrett told the team’s website: “We’re going to monitor his condition day by day and we’ll see how he feels going forward”. Romo expressed relief that he was OK afterward even though he was removed from the game as a precautionary measure given his history of back problems.
The injury means rookie Dak Prescott, who has been in exceptional form in pre-season, is now likely to thrust into the starting line-up earlier than expected.
An MRI revealed that Tony Romo fractured a vertebra in his lower back during the team’s preseason loss to Seattle on Thursday.
Garrett wouldn’t rule out Romo for the regular-season opener September 11 against the New York Giants.
Rookie Dak Prescott, a former Haughton High School star, is now the team’s backup and has had an outstanding preseason.
“It’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had”, Garrett said.
“Still trying to take it in a little bit”, Frederick said.
The fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State has completed 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards, with no interceptions.
Dak Prescott will be the Week 1 starter, as the Dallas Cowboys are merely searching for a veteran backup in Tony Romo’s absence, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Now it looks as if Prescott will start in his regular-season debut, just as he did in the preseason in the first National Football League game in Los Angeles in more than 20 years.
