But he woke up Friday morning in discomfort as his back stiffened up on him, resulting in a magnetic resonance imaging exam.

CBS Sports first reported that Romo is expected to miss 6-10 weeks while recovering from a compression fracture of his L1 vertebra.

It appeared Romo had escaped serious injury after initial fears were dire as, 90 seconds into last week’s preseason game, he was hit from behind by the Seahawks’ Cliff Avril, hit the ground and immediately reached for his back.

A source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport that the best-case scenario for Romo’s return is during the middle of the season. But he had managed to walk off the field without assistance.

On Saturday, we learned that the situation is much worse-Romo broke a bone in his back and is out indefinitely. Prescott further showed his ability during Thursday night’s match-up against the Seahawks, in which he went 17-of-23 for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Eli Manning said he found out about Romo’s latest injury earlier Saturday. Coach Jason Garrett would not speculate if the four-time Pro Bowler would miss the season opener against the Giants on September 11 at AT&T Stadium. “I thought he did a particularly good job in this game against Seattle because he certainly didn’t anticipate going in on the fourth play of the game”.

The Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback is injured yet again.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett confirmed the devastating news all Dallas fans didn’t want to hear on August 27.

“We’ll just see. There’s a lot of ways to acquire players”, he said.

Showers hasn’t played a regular-season down at the National Football League level.

There isn’t a timetable for Romo’s recovery as it stands right now, but it seems like a reasonable guess that he won’t available for at least the first few games of the season.

The Cowboys will now turn to Prescott who has had a sensational preseason, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
