Cowboys top Dolphins as QBs play well on both sides

The weirdest part of the Prescott story is that it’s altogether possible that he can do the same thing he has been doing for another two games, and then turn into a clipboard-holding backup for the rest of the year.

ARLINGTON, Texas – When the Dallas Cowboys lost Kellen Moore to a broken right fibula on August 2, panic set in.

Dak Prescott and Alfred Morris provided the offensive firepower in the Cowboys 41-14 win over the Dolphins. He added three rushes for 28 yards and two more touchdowns for good measure.

Dallas desperately needed someone who could come in and start for Tony Romo if needed, and not only just be a placeholder, but someone who could actually excel and keep this team in a playoff hunt.

But with “Zeke” still out nursing a hamstring problem, Morris showed why the Cowboys wanted him, scoring a TD and even busting out his old “Home Run” celebration that haunted Dallas when he played for the Redskins. He made four field goals to pace the Chargers.

In two preseason games, Prescott has completed 81.5 % of his passes for 338 yards, four touchdowns and no picks.

At no point in the game did he look pressured or nervous. “Just coming in, just trying to work”. “To have depth at that position is a big, big bonus. It’s a lot of hard work that goes into this”.

So why is this the flawless situation for Prescott?

“I don’t really pay attention to that, but it’s pretty cool, I guess”, Prescott said of his flawless 158.3 quarterback rating Friday night. “For it all to come true, it’s such a blessing”.

However, his emergence has huge implications not just in future years, but the present for the Cowboys.

Dallas got a good feel for Prescott and vice versa at the Reese’s Senior Bowl as Jason Garrett was coaching the North Squad.

“Each day the games will get tougher because you move on here, ” Romo said. At another team I visited, they ran the exact same stuff we ran. It is plain to see that Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli had ripped into the defense since last weeks’ performance. The first and second team offense performed well at AT&T Stadium.

Dallas coaches and players, such as Witten, were glad to see Romo back on the field.

“I’ve been very impressed with how Dak has played”, Romo said. This will tell us more of what to expect for the 2016 Season.

But Prescott looks like a heck of a pick, giving the team a backup option at quarterback. It’s tough to find a true comparison. Russell Wilson is often mentioned, but with Prescott’s 6-foot-2, 238 pound frame he can stand in the pocket a little better than the Seahawks quarterback and to this point hasn’t given up on clean pockets to run around almost as much as you would expect from a young, inexperienced signal caller. With his friends and family waiting outside, Prescott is asked a question: What’s next? “I don’t know if there’s any quarterback that I would say I mimic my game after”.

“It was a good start”. He wants to learn, he wants to be good.

Bryant and Romo both praised Prescott in postgame interviews with reporters. The Cowboys ended the night with twelve penalties for a whopping 113 yards.
