Cowboys vs. Rams: Score, Stats & Highlights Preseason
It’s too early to say the Dallas Cowboys don’t need to sign or trade for another quarterback to backup Tony Romo.

The Cowboys rookie quarterback is the reason why. They made overtures to free-agent Nick Foles, who chose the Kansas City Chiefs. Josh McCown of the Cleveland Browns has been rumored to be Dallas’ target.
A fourth-round pick from Mississippi State, Prescott completed 10 of 12 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns with a 154.5 passer rating. Two of his passes, including an impressive throw over the middle, were dropped. Mannion also had one interception.
Dez Bryant and Marcus Peters are two of the best at their respective positions.
Prescott hooked up with Dez Bryant on a 10-yard score against cornerback Coty Sensabaugh in the first quarter then lofted a perfectly placed 32-yard throw over Lamarcus Joyner to Terrance Williams en route to a 21-7 lead.
Prescott’s teammates were gushing about the young quarterback after the preseason opener, and the rookie felt the love.
Quarterback Jared Goff, the top pick in this year’s draft, came off the bench after Case Keenum started and was intercepted on his first series.
Prescott played with poise and accuracy.
After showing some interest in former Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles passer Nick Foles, Dallas chose to stay the course with their stable of young players behind Romo. For the most part, we will see young guys and back-end of the roster players who are fighting for spots on the team in this game.
Prescott is going to be a bad boy!
Brice Butler had a nice catch and Lucky Whitehead made his presence felt with a nice jet sweep and a 101 yard kick return to open the game. That helped Dallas jump out to a 24-7 lead. He didn’t play like a rookie. The ploy is meant to discourage kick returns, which may be the most risky play in the game.
The offense began ominously with a drop from Swaim. All of this against a Rams secondary that played without EJ Gaines and lost Janoris Jenkins and Rodney McLeod in the offseason.
However, the Cowboys were backed up by penalties.
The Cowboys lost 28-24, but Prescott was the story for Dallas.
In his National Football League preseason debut, Rams No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff experienced some growing pains, throwing an interception on 4-for-9 passing and 38 yards in brief second-quarter action.
The Cowboys begin their preseason tonight against the Rams.
After a running play and a forced-attempt incomplete pass, Goff faced a third-down blitz, at least for a couple seconds.

But the defense is a major question mark. Prescott looked great in his first National Football League series and went 6-of-7 on the opening possession. Because Prescott is a rookie, he didn’t dress near Romo or Jameill Showers, so Linehan had to step over and around players and equipment to get to him.
