Tony Romo is out with yet another back injury and it’s unknown when he will return, although Dallas coach Jason Garrett says he expects his star quarterback to play this season.

Prescott grew up rooting for the Dallas Cowboys in Louisiana and suddenly finds himself in line to start their opener as a rookie quarterback with Tony Romo sidelined by yet another back injury.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said (vis ESPN) the team is not ruling out Romo for the season opener in two weeks.

“In a weird way I feel good about the fact that was probably as tough of a hit I took on the back as I’ve had in the last five years”, Romo said.

However, the Cowboys were 1-11 without Romo previous year and are 7-20 without him since 2006.

Romo will likely need an epidural to play, and a return by mid-season is reportedly a “best-case-scenario”, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “We’ve heard a wide range of possibilities in terms of when he would be able to play”.

The Cowboys could also place the 36-year-old on injured reserve, but he would have to miss the first eight weeks of the regular season.

There isn’t a timetable for Romo’s recovery as it stands right now, but it seems like a reasonable guess that he won’t available for at least the first few games of the season.

The team had been hoping for a big turnaround this season with a healthy Romo behind center. Later, Romo said he was OK.

Romo underwent an MRI exam on Friday, which displayed the break.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, left, is tackled by Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril during the first half of a preseason NFL football game Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, in Seattle.

“I don’t want to speculate”, Jones said. “Again, on the practice field, he handled it very well, and he handled it well in game situations”. You don’t like to see any player get hurt, any other quarterback, a guy I have great respect for and have competed against a bunch. We made a decision to not have him go back in, and then he actually felt fine after the game.

Outside of the missed interceptions, Claiborne also gave up a touchdown in the second quarter.
