Cowboys won’t put Tony Romo on injured reserve, even though he’s injured
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Tuesday, as only he can, that the team won’t be putting quarterback Tony Romo on injured reserve even though the broken bone in his back will keep him out of action for an extended period of time.

Rookie Dak Prescott will start in Romo’s absence, and Sanchez, who was cut Saturday by the Denver Broncos, will be the backup. The Cowboys also kept starting quarterback Tony Romo on the roster.
Romo is not expected to play for at least six weeks and might be out until November with a compression fracture in his back, the third major back injury of his career. There is a pretty small chance that Mark Sanchez steals the job from Prescott, but the former needs to improve his skills set because even the defending champion were unimpressed with his play that the Broncos chose to released him.
The Cowboys came to an agreement with Sanchez on a one-year deal on Saturday. “Currently he’s on the 53-man roster”.
After holding off on adding a veteran following Moore’s injury, the Cowboys knew they would have to add one once Romo got hurt.
Dallas has the league’s best offensive line and a running game led by fourth overall pick Ezekiel Elliott, not to mention the return to form of Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant.
With Prescott moving into the starting role, the Cowboys have spent the last week trying to find a quarterback fill the backup role until Romo returns.
Unless another team claims him, the Cowboys will likely sign Showers to the practice squad. The former Nebraska star was placed on the reserve/did not report list before training camp in July.
