Cowboys won’t take LB Myles Jack at No. 34

On Monday, Myles went on The Rich Eisen Show and explained (via Chase Goodbread of NFL.com) that experiencing a draft slide was rough on him: “It was, honestly, humiliating”.

Since 2007, the Jaguars have gone 39-89 overall, with the best mark coming in 2010 at 8-8.

Linebacker Myles Jack was selected on Friday night with the 36 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft after the Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to make him the fifth selection of the second round on Friday. Jack was a very talented player at UCLA, but a knee injury last season led to a tough decision. He was unable to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine and participated only on a limited basis at UCLA’s pro day. “[The degenerative problems are] there, but it’s nothing extreme”, Jack said at an National Football League event for prospects at Grant Park. Who knows what will happen?

Jack played linebacker and running back at UCLA, but after tearing his meniscus in practice early into his junior season chose to forfeit his NCAA eligibility to focus exclusively on recovering in time for the draft. There is some thinking that he could play for five to seven years, and if he’s at his best, those would be good seasons. When the Jaguars saw him still on the board in the 4th round, they chose to ignore the depth in their interior defensive line rotation and take Day. The Jaguars examined his knee and worked him out a few weeks before the draft, and seem to have faith in his ability to fully recover. “There’s risk with any player, and we feel he’s the right pick”. They can’t gamble on a player with a Top 10 pick. Many of those same experts even listed Jack as the second-best athlete in this draft class. They’ve also filled two key positions on their up-and-coming defense.

Let us know where you think Jack will fall in the poll, and tell us why in the comments section below.

Recently, though, it was revealed that Jack has a defect in his knee and could lead to another injury later on in his career. In 2013, he was the offensive and defensive freshman of the year in the Pac-12 – a rare double honor.

“Somebody had to believe in me and I had a feeling it would be Jacksonville”, Jack said.
