Cox, Verizon FiOS Still Top Netflix ISP Streaming Rankings

“In the U.S., Charter rose to fourth place, up two in the ranking, with an average speed of 3.46 Megabits per second (Mbps), up from 3.37 Mpbs last month”, noted Anne Marie Squeo from the Netflix communications team.

In May there were seven ISPs listed, but there are only 6 in July as Dodo and Primus are now lumped in together.

Netflix’s latest Internet Service Provider (ISP) Speed Index update has revealed that Telstra is still Australia’s slowest carrier when it comes to a prime-time streaming experience. “Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions”. Indeed, if compared like for like with other networks I would expect to see results similar to other reports.

Among major ISPs, Comcast, AT&T, Verizon and Time Warner Cable have paid interconnection deals with Netflix (Bright House is taking advantage of the TWC-Netflix deal). Top-ranked iiNet still didn’t set the world on fire at an average 3.32 Mbps, but the junior telco has made a virtue of Netflix access by declining to count streamed video from the company against its download allowances. Telstra has now taken the lowest spot in the Index for four months in a row, recording an average speed of just 2.05Mbps for the month of July. “This includes upgrades to our core network, exchanges, local backhaul and content distribution solutions, and a program for rolling out the best new in-home devices we have like our Gateway Max for our customers”.
