Crackdown 3’s Destructible Environments Will Be Mostly Limited to Multiplayer

The demonstration of the fantastic physics in Crackdown 3 impressed all of us, and it’s supposedly using the power of equivalent to around twenty Xbox One consoles to do the heaviest calculations.

The cloud-powered destruction is “exclusive to the multiplayer mode”, creative director David Jones told IGN.

Even as we reported it a couple of days ago, an implication seemed to be obvious – in order to access the “power of the cloud”, gamers have to be connected online, which is fine for multiplayer. The same can be said about the general 2016 release time frame, though in an interview this past week at Gamescom, Dave Jones did narrow the window a little revealing that the Reagent Games team was targeting release sometime next summer.

Crackdown 3’s impressive-looking destruction will be limited to multiplayer, but some of it can be found in single-player. Single player on the otherhand will be much like the classic Crackdown experience. Crackdown 3 comes with two modes: one is playable offline, and should be pretty familiar to fans of the series. If you’re still a bit sad about this news, rest assured that everyone who’s checking Crackdown 3 at Gamescom 2015 is speaking highly of the multiplayer destruction – you can check out why in the video presentation we’ve embedded below. Crackdown 3 is said to include an entirely new city, with more customizations and the ability to play as a female agent in the game.
