Crackdown on separatists in JK ahead of PM’s visit

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Srinagar on November 7, Jammu & Kashmir government has launched a crackdown on separatist elements in the state.

“It will also be a message to the world that Kashmiri people have not given up their age old demand for plebiscite which NC tried to bury in 1975”, he said.

Terming the crackdown on the separatist camp as “frustration and acceptance of defeat by government”, Syed Ali Geelani said, “We are not scared of arrests and restrictions and will continue with our “Million March” program come what may”.

He additionally requested leaders of his faction of Hurriyat Conference to make the Million March program profitable.

“In a run to become more loyal than the king, Mufti Sayeed is extending his every possible help to the communal and fascist forces of India”, he alleged.

“We are trying to identify the pages on Facebook and Twitter, which have been created to promote the “Million March” rally called by separatists”.

Geelani had approached authorities in search of permission for the march at Tourist Reception Center Ground that’s exclusively few hundred metres away from the venue the place Prime Minister Modi will probably be addressing a rally.

He also appealed the Muslims of the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal region to send their representatives to Srinagar to participate in the proposed Million March. “People should be made aware that it is the day of referendum”.

The Ulema and Islamic scholars should also play their role in making the march a success, the statement said. Other separatist leaders, including Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Asiya Andrabi and others, have supported Geelani’s call for the march to coincide with Modi’s rally.

Before his arrest HC spokesman Aiyaz said the organisation will apply properly to Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, for holding the rally, adding HC will be responsible for any law and order problem.

Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed said, Modi’s November 7 visit will be a ‘turning point in the history of state, as the people here have great expectations’.

He described as disturbing the attempts aimed at vitiating the peaceful atmosphere ahead of PM’s visit.
