Sager, 64, is a reporter for TNT/TBS, best known for the wacky outfits he wears while conducting sideline reports during National Basketball Association games.

Sager was originally diagnosed with leukemia in April 2014.

Executive producer Maura Mandt said, “Craig’s positive attitude and passion have always been cornerstones of the coverage he does for TNT, and those attributes are a large part of what endears him to fans”. SAGERSTRONG works with various charitable partners to support the treatment of those suffering from blood cancers and AML.

The beloved “NBA on TNT” sideline reporter revealed earlier this year that even after two stem-cell transplants, his cancer has returned. Sager was a first-time nominee for a Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter in 2012. While battling cancer, Valvano gave an emotional acceptance speech that included his famous words “Don’t give up … don’t ever give up!”

The Jimmy V Award is named in honor of the late, great Jim Valvano, who gave his iconic “never give up” speech at the ESPYS more than 20 years ago. Last year’s winners were Leah and Devon Still, while 2014’s recipient was the late Stuart Scott. This year, Sager revealed that his cancer was no longer in remission, but he’s continued to work games during the playoffs for TNT. The ESPYS will be broadcast live on WEDNESDAY, JULY 13 (8:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.
