Cranes fall on houses in Netherlands, unclear if people hurt

Two cranes utilized to improve a join in the middle Dutch city of Alphen aritificial neural network family room Rijn have zero on important buildings, hurting a minimum of 20 people in general, mass media say. The cranes were operating on a large barge and were in the process of moving a section of the bridge when they toppled over.

The brigade spokesperson added that heavy machinery was being moved to site to search for people who may be trapped in houses.

Footage shot on the street near the scene of the accident shows several houses totally destroyed by the fallen cranes and section of bridge, with severe damage to other buildings nearby. Koot said he didn’t know how seriously injured the victims were.

Dutch TV channel NOS said the cranes fell on a second-hand clothing store and another shop selling art and drawing supplies, but it remains unclear how many people were inside at the time.

“You see the cloud of dust rise – that is a bad image and you think, ‘Who is under there?’ You can’t believe what you see”, witness Dick van Smirren told NOS. Rescuers with sniffer dogs were on their way to the scene to check for survivors.

Dutch news website RTL Nieuws reports that the accident occurred during renovations to the Queen Juliana Bridge, which has been undergoing work since April.
