“We join the Nebraska and Michigan State communities in sending our thoughts and prayers to the families, teammates, coaches, administrators and friends who have been impacted by the tragic loss of Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler”, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Monday.

Sadler was driving the Mercedes sedan, and Foltz was a front seat passenger.

Sadler was a four-year starter at Michigan State from 2011 to 2014.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, 24-year-old Michael Sadler, a former punter at Michigan State University, and 22-year-old Samuel Foltz, a punter for the University of Nebraska, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye, 21, sustained minor injuries in the crash on Saturday night in Merton, Wisconsin.

Sadler was behind the wheel, the Lincoln Star said. It would appear that speed was a key factor in the auto crash.

The story notes, in fact, that Foltz had stayed with the Meyer family several times before. He’d remind you of the Royals record and even one time he served as a one-person viewing audience for one of my sportscasts.

“They’re in a better place now”, Mortell said.

Riley had to get to know a roster of more than 120 players past year, but he quickly connected with Foltz.

Foltz was raised on a farm near Greeley and, starting in fourth grade, attended Grand Island public schools through his high school graduation. So much better. I can only hope my own son can stand for all the things Sam Foltz did.

Riley, quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr., receiver Jordan Westerkamp and linebacker Josh Banderas were scheduled to be a part of the Big Ten media kickoff Monday and Tuesday in Chicago.

Sadler was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2012 and 2013 and was an Academic All-American four times, according to a statement from Michigan State. He led punting a year ago at 44.2 yards a kick, and he was ranked the fifth best in the school’s history (42.6). This loss will be felt for a long time around the Nebraska program. “Sam was truly a tremendous young man who represented everything that a Nebraska student, athlete, teammate and friend should strive to be. Our thoughts and prayers are with them”, Jamie Kohl, Kohl’s Kicking Camp director said in a statement on Sunday.

“As soon as you met Mike Sadler and talked to him, you fell in love with him in about five minutes”, Mannie said.

Two college football players are dead and another injured after their vehicle crashed in Waukesha County Saturday night, sheriff’s deputies said.
