Crawford beats Postol in title unification fight

Crawford and Postol, both undefeated titleholders in their primes, were universally regarded as the two best 140-pounders in the world coming into the fight.

The fifth round is when the fight really came to life when Crawford landed two excellent left hands in the round that forced Postol to take a knee on both occasions. This being boxing, though, a lot of fans figure to do just that. Most in the crowd booed the decision. “He did try to win the fight, but the speed it was just too much”.

However, there is no denying Crawford won the bout handily. He was constantly moving, not allowing Postol to set his feet and throw his left jab, the punch that sets up his entire offensive attack.

Postol had no answers for Crawford on Saturday. A cuffing lead right hook knocked him to the canvas in mere seconds, and Crawford proceeded to floor him again with a shotgun blast counter left hand that sent the Ukrainian staggering about the ring. That didn’t last long, though. From a prize fighting point of view, Crawford possesses an nearly identical style to Floyd Mayweather Jnr but their personalities sit at entirely different ends of the spectrum. Postol suffered his first loss in 29 bouts and will need to evaluate where he goes next after what was a disappointing night. After that, it was all Crawford, even if only in spurts.

“I watched him and they said he had the best jab in the game, in the division”, Crawford said.

Terence Crawford’s counterpunching caught Viktor Postol before he could land any significant punches. Thus the movement by Crawford. We have the same promoter so we should have got the job done making this fight. Could a win produce a fight with Manny Pacquiao this Fall?

With a win Terence Crawford finds himself in the mix for an opportunity against the 8 division world champion as he did in what was considered Manny Pacquiao’s 3rd and final career fight with Timothy Bradley Jr.

“I am at the top, I think my performance today put me up there”, Crawford told HBO in the post-fight interivew.

“It’s amusing how all of the people are giving Postol all of the credit for his jab, but nobody is talking about how good my jab is”, Crawford said. “He was quicker than me”. He’s one of the best fighters in the world.

Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach, has been training Postol since 2014 and their relationship has been nothing but a success. I was surprised how fast and how good he was.

“It will be at 140”, Crawford said. Postol weighed 139 1/2 on Friday, 152 on Saturday.

Two-time Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez won the vacant WBO featherweight title with a sensational second round knockout over Matias Rueda of Argentina. The bout was waved off right then and Valdez ran around the ring in celebration.

“That happened in the amateurs”, Valdez said.

The 28-year-old stayed true to his laid-back personality and said that decision is up to his managers, per the HBO pay-per-view broadcast. For example, Canelo Alvarez’s anticipated destruction of Amir Khan, the unanticipated relinquishing of his belt and new announcement of a drop in weight to face Liam Smith, or the out-of-the-blue pairing of Golovkin with Kell Brook, these are all fights that do not make sense. “I could never recover from that”.
