The 26-year-old powerhouse looks to continue to come up with the clutch hit on Wednesday afternoon as the host Miami Marlins play the rubber match of their three-game series with the San Francisco Giants. After combining for 15 runs on 31 hits in the series opener, the teams’ offenses fell silent on Tuesday with Stanton’s broken-bat RBI double serving as the loudest of the seven hits.
The Giants haven’t released why Bochy went to University of Miami Hospital on Monday.
Even Bochy might have flipped to synchronized diving, or tucked into a cup of lime Jell-O and taken a nap.
Posey had gone from first to third on Crawford s single – his fifth hit of the ninth – when gravity got the better of him.
There stood Crawford, who just completed a remarkable feat, yet all the attention went to TV replays of Buster Posey’s 11th-inning face plant into third base.
“I’ve never seen anything like that”, Koehler said.
Crawford, entered the night hitting.265 and 7 hits later pulled him to a.278 average.
Crawford had five singles, a double and a triple. Aside from Stennett, only Detroit’s Cesar Gutierrez (in 1970) and Rocky Colavito (in 1962) have a seven-hit game since 1913.
Crawford’s hits came off six different pitchers. “But the way you get it back is by playing”.
“Tom has been really saving us”, said Marlins manager Don Mattingly. “We didn’t figure it out today”. Got to bring him down a notch after seven hits.
“There’s nothing else I want to do other than what I’m doing right now”, Bochy said .
According to SportsCenter, Crawford’s seven base hits were the most in an MLB game since 1975 and also tied the National League record.
Johnny Burnett holds the major league mark for an extra-inning game with nine hits for Cleveland in a 1932 contest that lasted 18 innings.
Koehler and Moore (three hits, five walks allowed in six innings) both threw a lot of pitches but mostly avoided solid contact.
“Exhausting”, Crawford said. “I’m exhausted right now”.
The Giants were without Bochy, admitted to a Miami hospital in the morning after feeling ill. Here’s more on Tuesday night in Miami.
“Exhausting”, Crawford said. “I’m exhausted right now”.
The Giants and Marlins played 14 innings on Monday and Posey caught the whole game. “I think we have a special group and I’m trying to do everything I can every fifth day to be a part of that”.
“I just have to be ready when my number’s called”, Cashner said.
Edwin Encarnacion: Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion took his parrot for a walk during Monday’s 7-5 win against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ozuna followed Stanton with a groundout scoring Martin Prado.
The Giants were out of position players, leaving ace pitcher Madison Bumgarner, a.183 hitter with legitimate power, to pinch-hit with the bases loaded. He struck out to end the inning.
The Giants scored five times in the seventh off three relievers and started the inning with six consecutive hits on their way to a 6-5 lead. Crawford then tied it up on a single to drive in Denard Span in the eighth inning.
“It’s scary, but he’s fine”, said right-hander Jake Peavy, whose relationship with Bochy goes back to their days together with the San Diego Padres. “They bounced back and from there it was insane after that”.
Elsewhere, the Cardinals also had a five-run inning, with a handful of runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally past the Reds for a 5-4 victory.
Ichiro Suzuki has donated to the Hall of Fame some of the gear he wore when he collected his 3,000th career hit, including his jersey, a pair of cleats, his arm guard and batting gloves. Suzuki tipped his helmet in appreciation before grounding out in his only at-bat. The Giants think Pence is simply slumping. He was given a day off Sunday and was back in the lineup Monday.
Wotus avoided specifics when discussing Bochy’s condition but referenced the past heart issue while explaining why they didn’t talk more in depth about the club.

Asked if it is the best four-game stretch in his career, Koehler said, “Hopefully it can end up being the best 12-game stretch”.
