Crawford, Giants blanked 2-0 in loss to Marlins

Crawford’s litany: infield dribbler against right-hander Jose Fernndez in the second inning; a double that barely skipped over the corner of first base in the fourth; a seeing-eye single to the right side off right-hander Nick Wittgren to help the Giants erase a 5-1 deficit in the seventh; a flared RBI single off right-hander Kyle Barraclough that dropped in front of right fielder Giancarlo Stanton in the eighth; a line-drive single up the middle off left-hander Mike Dunn in the 11th; a triple to right field off right-hander Dustin McGowan in the 13th; and then the difference maker in the 14th after Brandon Belt and Buster Posey had drawn two-out walks against right-hander Andrew Cashner.

The Marlins added another run that first inning on Marcell Ozuna’s ground ball out. The Hall of Fame requested the one he used to rap out all seven hits Monday night.

“I know what we’re trying to do here, and I want to be part of something special, and I think we have a special group”, Koehler said of the Marlins, who are still in playoff contention and hold the final wild card spot at the moment. Five base runners over seven innings didn’t lend itself to many rallies until Don Mattingly dipped into his bullpen for the eighth inning.

“He’s probably the strongest guy in the game”, said Moore, who missed in with a fastball he wanted away.

The Giants are locked in a tight battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West. During his tenure with the Giants, the team has a record of 815-707 (.535 win percentage) including this season, two division titles and three World Series championships.

Starting pitching report: Through two starts and 12 innings as a Giant, Moore has allowed just six hits. Matt Moore got the start for the Giants, and he had a decent outing. Samardzija has been struggling lately with an 0-3 mark in his last three with a 6.75 ERA.

“There’s a lot of season left”, Crawford said. In five games since, he was 5-for-24 with 15 groundball outs. Posey is available off the bench, Bochy said.

Said Koehler of his recent run of success: “Hopefully it’ll end up being (my) best 12-game stretch But we’ve got a long way to go here”. “We ended it at the right time. Still, it’s not clicking”.

Bochy returned to work on Tuesday with a new prescription and a fresh appreciation for his players. It’s a game, and they’re all trying their best. “So let ’em go do their thing and don’t get stressed out about it”.

That s especially important when you have a heart condition. He said he watched every pitch of the Giants 8-7, 14-inning victory at Marlins Park, which took five hours and 34 minutes to complete.

“That was some of the best medicine I could’ve had”, Bochy said. They said in a statement that he was “resting comfortably” and would be monitored overnight.

Bochy said the irregular heartbeat episode is something he has experienced in the past and was unrelated to his surgery previous year, when doctors inserted two stents to treat a pair of 90 percent blockages in the vessels near his heart.

“There’s no guarantee, but they don’t see anything happening”, said Bochy, 61. I don t anticipate having another episode of this.

“No, no, not at all”, Bochy said.
