A day after the rampage in this Oregon timber town, authorities said Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer wore a flak jacket and brought at least six guns and five ammunition magazines to the school.

“The guns are not the problem, it’s the people”, said Angela Brown, a local resident.

But when asked if she would prefer stricter gun laws, the governor said those talks should be reserved for a later date.

In a dating profile at Spiritual Passions, however, Mercer identified as “mixed race”.

Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg reported that it had received nine patients from the shooting, with more on the way.

“For the future, it is clear that it does have to be about more than words and good intentions if this carnage is to finally end”, Wyden said Friday while standing in front of the Roseburg Public Safety building alongside Brown, Sen.

One student at the college and the sister of a second student both told news organizations that Mercer 26, told people in classrooms to stand up and declare whether they were Christian. Those who answered “yes” were shot in the head.

Hanlin said 10 people were killed and seven others wounded in the shooting. The profile includes images of pro-Irish Republican Army propaganda. The names of those he fatally shot had not yet been released.

Somehow, the uncontrolled psychiatric symptoms of one man should justify, in the president’s mind, curtailing the liberties of all men. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, though, defines it as a shooting where “three or more people to be killed by gunfire”, The Post reported.

That account was given by the father of Anastasia Boylan, a student at Umpqua Community College in Roseland, Oregon, who claimed the shooter singled out Christians during the massacre that in addition to the fatalities left multiple people injured. “We all froze and bolted out the door”, he told local media. The site is notorious for staging online hoaxes, in addition to cat memes, hackings and Internet attacks. “Don’t go to school tomorrow if you are in the northwest”, an anonymous poster wrote a day before the shootings.

George Zimmerman, the man acquitted in 2013 of murder for shooting black teen Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, tweeted his reaction to the Oregon community college shooting Friday. We started to run to the center of campus. According to the Roseburg News-Review, the quadruplets graduated from Roseburg High School this year. The campus is a gun-free zone. Then I saw a guy with a handgun right outside – he was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. Student Cassandra Welding told CNN that she heard 35 to 40 shots. “But we got along with our teachers”.

He and his mother, Laurel Harper, mostly kept to themselves, except for occasional disputes over bugs or loud noises. Laurel Harper was awarded custody of her son.

Several years ago, Harper-Mercer moved to Winchester, Oregon, from Torrance, California, with his mother, a nurse named Laurel Harper.

Mr Mercer grew up in Preston, Lancashire, where his widower father Joseph, 77, lives.

Investigators believe he may have been a student at the college because a receipt found at the scene showed he purchased textbooks from the campus bookstore two days before the shooting, the ATF said. “I don’t know if she’s wounded”, Chandler said. “It’s been a devastating day”.

“We’ve become numb to this”, Obama said on Thursday evening.

“He was kind of quiet and laid back, he didn’t say much”, Greenley said. Fisher did not know Mercer’s relationship with the children. “I told her she could do it. Since then, she excelled in school”. “It looked like somebody had gotten rid of a lot of stuff and left”.

A neighbor, Bronte Harte, told The Associated Press that Mercer “seemed really unfriendly” and would “sit by himself in the dark in the balcony with this little light.”

“With current world events, (armed people) would keep the ground safer”, he said.

Steven Fisher, who lived near Mercer, described him as “skittish”. Mr Steven Fisher said he used to see him in the playground with kids. “I can’t begin to describe how I feel”.

Jason Johnson was from Winston, just south of Roseburg, the sheriff’s office said.

A few were bewildered by the noises.

She says they heard footsteps outside, and a man’s voice call out to them, “Come on out, come on out”.

Police soon arrived and, after students were convinced that it was indeed officers, they opened the door.

Sarah Cobb, 17, was in a next-door classroom.

“This is an anomaly and a tragedy”, she said of the shooting. “You could hear the gunshots echoing in the hall”.
