Creed star Tessa Thompson joins Thor: Ragnarok

There’s no firm confirmation on whom she’s playing yet, but the announcement comes with various other implications that reach far beyond the standard Marvel casting.

After breaking out in last year’s “Creed”, actress Tessa Thompson is eyeing a jump to the Marvel universe as the thesp has joined “Thor: Ragnarok”. The new film will be directed by another indie stalwart, thanks to the recent hiring of New Zealand’s own filmmaking darling, director Taika Waititi. According to Deadline, sources close to the film confirm her appearance in Ragnarok as not only a love interest for Chris Hemsworth, but as a “kind of superhero” that will eventually go on to appear in future Marvel films. Let the guessing begin!Thompson has also wowed audiences in Dear White People and Selma and garnered fans with her role as Jackie Cook in Veronica Mars. Playing “a kind of superhero” in her debut is better still news, adding some much-needed diversity and girl power to the world’s biggest franchise.

Details for Thompson’s part have not been revealed, but she could be the female lead as Natalie Portman, who was the female lead as Dr. Jane Foster in the previous two Thor installments, is not returning.

Thor: Ragnarok reportedly begins shooting in July. with a scheduled release date of November 3, 2017. Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) are returning, with Jaimie Alexander also expected to be back as Lady Sif.
