The action of shuttering stores is a part of a systematic review of all the approximately 11,600 Walmart stores worldwide.

More than 95 percent of the stores set to be closed in the USA are within 10 miles of another Wal-Mart.
But the company said it will offer those employees jobs elsewhere if available. The general store titan – the world’s biggest organization by number of workers, with 2.1m specialists – said it was rolling out the improvements to guarantee resources were adjusted to procedure.

“Every now and then a company takes a chance to test out a new market idea”, he said. “We saw what happened with grocery stores in Southern California”.
He asked if there was any chance of the board considering reopening the store, but it was an across-the-board decision.
Kleinhenz said some market strategies simply don’t pan out. He said that “with no one standing up for them, that is no doubt the reality”. “They come back here and shop on the way to work”. “But we continue to believe that Walmart needs a much larger restructuring of its store base in order to narrow its focus as it seeks to improve its sales and returns, especially internationally”.
After failing to generate enough foot traffic at numerous stores, the company pulled out of California and is still selling off some of those remaining stores. The store is one of 269 worldwide being closed by Walmart.
“Wal-Mart Express was a pilot, and we learned a lot from it”, she said. “I own a small business (Naisish Hand Made), and it’s hard to compare ± they sell a pair of shorts for $5 and I need to sell it for $35”.

In a statement, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said the company is “committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it”. “All store openings in 2015 and 2016 are providing close to 515 jobs”.
