Crews searching for body of man who jumped into Joe Pool Lake

Authorities will pick up the search Monday for a man who jumped into Joe Pool Lake and never resurfaced.

It’s a tragedy on one of the busiest weekends of the year at the lake, where authorities say drownings happen far too often.

“They’re doing sonar grid patterns, searching for hits to dive on”, said Asst. The 55-year-old man wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Crews searched for several hours Sunday, until it got dark.

The man, who has not been identified, was with a group about 4:15 p.m. on a boat in the lake when he jumped in, Game Warden Capt. We don’t know what happens to these people when they go under.

Murphy said the lake covers areas with standing structures and barbed wire causing entanglement risks making it unsafe for divers at night. Officials said at this point, the man is presumed drown and it is a recovery mission.
