Cricketer Praveen Kumar joins Samajwadi Party

Praveen may be fielded from a Meerut assembly seat in the 2017 polls as he hails from the city.

The former player of the Indian Cricket team, Praveen Kumar will be starting a new innings as a politician as he announced joining hands with Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party on Sunday.

The Meerut born all-rounder who has played six Tests, 68 One day Internationals, and 10 T20Is, said the reporters, “I have met the Chief Minister and chose to join the party”. Besides sports, the right-arm medium-pace bowler said the chief minister has done a lot of work for the all-round development of the state. “I will do whatever is possible for the party”, he told reporters after meeting Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also state president of SP. He has been a part of Indian cricket team for six test matches and 68 ODIs. Mohammad Kaif had joined the Congress in Uttar Pradesh and had even contested in the 2014 loksabha elections from Phulpur, which he eventually lost.
