The tie with Paris Saint-Germain next month appears to have provided Zidane with a stay of execution, but, despite their struggles, it would take a fearless person to bet against Madrid advancing past the Qatari-owned enterprise.
The Special One quashed recent speculation that he might quit in the summer by putting pen to paper in a deal that could see him stay at Old Trafford until 2021 if both parties activate the option of an additional year.
Real coach Zinedine Zidane has come in for serious criticism for his side’s dramatic fall from grace after sweeping to the Liga title last season and winning back-to-back Champions Leagues and he said his spirits had been lifted.
Going forward, however, big changes are afoot, with a whole host of elite attacking players being linked with the side.
In addition, the Blancos would also shell out £100m for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
Gareth Bale has reportedly rejected an offer to join Bayern Munich, according to Diario Gol.
The goalkeeper is a long-term target for the Spanish giants, the club he almost joined in 2015.
“Operation Neymar” will not be easy, though, as PSG do not seem prepared to let their world record signing leave so quickly, and Perez knows it will take more than €250 million (R3.7 billion) to prise him away from France.
Of course, Neymar could always agitate for a move but that would require severing his ties with a second major European club, following his acrimonious departure from the Nou Camp last summer.
Madrid fans will get a chance to judge for themselves as PSG and Real meet in the Champions League last-16 in February and March.

It had been suggested that the door could be opened to an emotional reunion, with Ronaldo now 32 years of age and caught up in the struggles currently being endured by Real.
But Mourinho has poured cold water on the reports, claiming “only one team can have him”.

But he could still leave the club in June, with a move back to Spurs a possibility if the Merengue seek out the London club’s star.
