Critics: Force is strong with ‘Star Wars’
“The Force Awakens”, which stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and Harrison Ford, could earn United States dollars 35 million-USD 47 million on Christmas Day, which would easily surpass the USD 24.6 million opening of “Sherlock Holmes” on December 25, 2009 to nab the biggest Christmas Day revenue of all time. The current record holder is Jurassic World (13 days), which had the benefit of opening day and date in China. What is going to propel Force Awakens past the five century point is its second weekend haul, which many are projecting between $150M-$162M, triggered by Christmas day advance tickets sales.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which will release in India on Friday, has broken many records in the worldwide market.
Given the record breaking success and acclaim for The Force Awakens, Disney may well wish Abrams was still writing and directing the rest of the trilogy, if only because he is a proven commodity and then some. Now at $343.6 million internationally, the big news here is that Mockingjay Part 2 is finally past the $600 million mark worldwide after a bit over a month in theaters. Disney plans four “Star Wars” movies through 2019, plus major expansions at its US theme parks to incorporate the droids, spaceships and otherworldly creatures of the universe Lucas invented.
While there is no chance that Star Wars will see a decrease like that of Avatar (1.8 percent), it is highly likely that its decrease will be much smaller than that of the dinosaur sequel.
According to Rentrak, the coming weekend will be a busy holiday weekend at the box office.
So far The Force Awakens has made an estimated $325.4 million along with a global total of $689.4 million as of Tuesday, reported THR.
