Crosby’s scoring streak earns him NHL first star of the week honours

“His game is at another level right now”, Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. “He’s a big reason we continue to gain traction in the standings”.

The Pittsburgh captain had five goals and three assists in three games last week, extending his point streak to 10 games.

He’s done everything in his power as of late though to prove that the Crosby of old, the elite offensive dynamo, is alive and well. Malkin has been at the top of his game all season and now finds Crosby and Letang playing up to par recently as well. “Our starts have gotten a lot better”.

G Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 36 shots for his sixth home win in a row as Pittsburgh beat Anaheim 6-2 Monday. After winning each of his previous three starts, Gibson allowed six goals on 31 Pittsburgh shots before being replaced by Frederik Anderson, who saved the four shots he faced. “With Sid going the way he is, it gives everybody confidence”, Kunitz said. Crosby took a feed from Kunitz, and with Anaheim’s Cam Fowler using his stick to tug at Crosby’s jersey, he fooled Gibson while going to his knees for his 24th of the year.

At one point he was just expected to miss a game with a “nagging” lower-body injury. Since Jan. 1, he has 26 points, nearly half his season total. J.T. Brown scored the Lightning’s only goal.

Penguins winger Carl Hagelin had an assist to stretch his scoring streak to five games, tying his career high. Corey Perry leads Anaheim with 21 goals, Sami Vatanen has 18 assists and Ryan Kesler has 117 shots on goal. Sheary’s third goal of the season 10:06 into the period was the reward for a relentless shift by the fourth line.

Tomas Tatar opened the scoring four minutes into the third period before two goals from Pavel Datsyuk sealed the emphatic result. “There’s, I’d say, maybe two or three guys in the League that make that play, and he’s one of them”.
