Crowd gathers after Milwaukee officer fatally shoots man

It’s unclear if the man shot by the officer had aimed or attempted to fire his weapon at the 24-year-old male officer who stopped him, said Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Bill Jessup, adding that police have yet to interview the officer.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, police said three arrests had been made in connection with the unrest.

The triggering event came Saturday afternoon, when a man fleeing police after a traffic stop was shot and killed.

Shortly after, both occupants fled on foot and officers pursued them, police said. An officer shot and killed that man.

Protesters also appeared to vandalize traffic lights and a bus shelter.

An Oklahoma judge has delayed a ruling on whether to accept the guilty plea of a man who has admitted beheading a co-worker and says he wants the death penalty.

“It’s too much. This brings us to tears”, said Jeter. “And there are a lot of really really good people who live in this area – in the Sherman Park area, who can’t stand this violence”.

According to Milwaukee Police, officers are working on peacefully dispersing crowd.

An earlier standoff involved more than 100 people pushing against 20 to 30 officers.

In the evening chaos, journalists from the Journal Sentinel were chased by the crowd, and one was tackled and punched, reports the newspaper.

The unrest follows peaceful protests and some violence in United States cities over the past two years following high-profile killings by law enforcement officers in Baltimore, New York and Ferguson, Missouri.

The police said on Twitter that one officer was being treated at a hospital after a brick that was thrown through a patrol vehicle window struck the officer in the head. He says the handgun was determined to be stolen.

“I know this neighborhood very very well”. Our officers are out here taking risks on behalf of the community and making split-second decisions. “Black people of Milwaukee are exhausted”.

According to a CBS affiliate in Milwaukee, a Milwaukee Police officer shot and killed an armed suspect fleeing from a vehicle on Milwaukee’s North Side.
