Cruz challenges Trump to 1-on-1 debate

Donald Trump really does not want to attend the GOP debate on Thursday if Megyn Kelly is there.

Seka Kaplarevic, a small business owner from Chicago who said she is “90%” likely to vote for Trump, said Trump had the “right to boycott” and that Fox News should appease Trump by replacing Kelly as the moderator. The two-hour debate at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, the candidates’ final meeting before the February 1 lead-off caucuses in the Hawkeye State, will be broadcast from 9-11 p.m. ET.

In a media conference shortly after the tweet was sent, Trump said he “probably won’t be doing the debate”.

Fox News is firing back at Donald Trump for the Republican presidential front-runner’s decision to skip Thursday night’s debate, accusing Trump’s campaign manager of threatening anchor Megyn Kelly.

Trump accused Kelly last August of asking him tougher questions than other candidates during a debate.

On Tuesday night’s airing of her Fox News show, “The Kelly File”, Kelly said she’ll be at the debate, which will “go on with or without Mr. Trump”. She, in the first Republican debate, had the fair and balanced temerity to ask him entirely relevant questions about his treatment of women.

“Megyn Kelly is an excellent journalist and the entire network stands behind her”, Ailes told the Post. Ahead of Iowa’s caucuses next Monday, Trump leads in the polls over Texas Senator Ted Cruz, whom Trump dismissed as a “nasty guy” who “nobody likes”. “He knows it. Everybody knows it”, Trump said.

In the wake of Fox’s reply, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski offered one option.

Fox News didn’t waste any time responding to Donald Trump’s announcement that he planned to bail on the network’s upcoming presidential debate. But one thing is for sure: Kelly will be there, whether Trump is or not. “Let’s see how much money Fox is going to make on the debate without me”, he added. She knows that, I know that, everybody knows that.

His absence would change the balance of the debate and give his rivals free shots to attack Trump. He’s even trying to pick the moderator of Thursday’s Republican presidential debate.
