Cruz defends not endorsing Trump: I’m not a ‘servile puppy’
On Monday, Melania, 46, made headlines after she delivered a speech championing her husband, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, with several passages that struck many as too reminiscent of Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Trump told the crowd that he once met Cruz’s father, Rafael, and that he was a “lovely guy”.
Ted Cruz, with his wife Heidi, announced the suspension of his campaign in May. Donald Trump Jr. shared stories of growing up with his dad on job sites and in the office; Tiffany Trump offered anecdotes about the personal notes he wrote on her report cards and Eric Trump shared his pride in being a Trump.
Trump’s speech was consistant with the theme of many of his previous speeches, where he painted the current state of the country as bleak, risky and constantly under attack, things only he as president can fix.
Cher, if her Twitter activity is any indication, is not dead.
When chaos broke out, the Orlando police captain didn’t say, ‘I alone can fix it, ‘ she declared. “Now, I am seeing him fight for his country”.
“This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton”, he said.
But the win had come at the cost of a seriously divided Republican Party, where many prominent figures of the party, including two previous Republican presidents and two previous Republican presidential nominees refused to attend his crowning party.
The White House responded to Mr Trump’s comments by saying there should be no mistaking the commitment of the USA to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance with its European allies.
Ted Cruz, Donald Trump’s former rival, was booed off the Republican top stage on Wednesday night after he withheld his endorsement of the NY billionaire as the nominee. “Well, he doesn’t understand that Americans, we Americans, we are strong, big-hearted, result-oriented, generous people in America”, she said. “I never heard Donald Trump talk about what he’s proud of [about] America; what it is he thinks we do right”.
Basking in the glow of victory, Trump dismissed Cruz’s opposition in his remarks to volunteers and said he wouldn’t accept the Texan’s endorsement in any event. Gingrich said that in practice that should compel them to vote for Trump.
Mr Trump also criticised the record of his rival Mrs Clinton from when she was in charge of foreign policy, and blamed her for the spread of Islamic State, the destabilisation of Libya and Egypt and the chaos in Iraq and Syria.

Three days in, this convention seems to be setting back rather than advancing Republican unity – and, as ever, the deepest source of disunity is the candidate himself.
