Cruz: I’ll win, but attacks are coming
Rubio has been under attack from rival GOP candidate Ted Cruz for opposing increased border security and other measures, indirectly accusing him of “pushing [a] massive amnesty plan”.

“I don’t think necessarily Iowans are there”. “So I’m not somebody who believes that it is going to cost us the United States Senate”.
“We will have a Commander and Chief who stands up to the world and says, ‘We will defeat radical Islamic terrorism'”. He’s seen as competing most directly with others considered part of the GOP establishment – Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. “I’m not running against them, I’m running for president”, Rubio said Wednesday on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends”.
Of Bush, Rubio said: “We see that as we get closer to Election Day the millions of dollars he’s spent are not changing his fortunes – he’s becoming increasingly negative in his attacks”, said the Florida lawmaker, who served in the state legislature when Bush was governor.
Along with Bush, the two men are banking on a win in New Hampshire to propel their candidacies. Some attended Super PAC and campaign fundraisers held Tuesday in Cisco that were timed to coincide with the fly-in. After all, a lot of the potential decisions – Marco Rubio or Scott Walker?
“[Rubio] matters as much as I do, and I don’t have a vote in the Senate”. “Hillary Clinton’s biggest liability is that her policies are a disaster”.
The Texas Republican said he would be “deeply concerned” if no one was attacking him because “it wouldn’t mean we were winning”.
The Cruz campaign combines a traditional get-out-the-vote operation – making phone calls and knocking on doors – with modern data analytics to identify and mobilize supporters, beginning with Iowa on February 1.
“As 2016 starts, Iowa feels it’s Cruz’s to lose”, said Matt Strawn, a former Iowa Republican Party chairman. People would have wasted time considering them in advance.
It was a bold declaration from a candidate who despite his fundraising advantages and favorable early-state polling, trails Donald Trump solidly in the national horserace.
“I am not interested in getting into personal attacks and innuendo”, he said Tuesday at a news conference in Cisco.
While Rubio’s team publicly still hopes to perform well in all four early-nominating states – Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada – supporters privately acknowledge the likelihood that his best chance at a first-place victory has trickled down to Nevada, where he has logged more visits than most other candidates.
Recent polls suggest Cruz is leading in Iowa, where he has built a deep organization with endorsements from state and local officials and support in all 99 counties.

In an interview in Davenport, Santorum said conservative leaders are either walking away from the marriage issue or settling on a candidate because they think he can win.
