Cruz ‘not Trump’s servile puppy dog’
Fresh off his marathon Republican convention acceptance speech, Donald Trump looked backward Friday, rekindling his feud with onetime chief rival Ted Cruz. “If you love our country and love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience”, he said as the crowd erupted into yells of anger and chants of “Trump!”.

Delegate Rey Gonzalez of San Benito said that before the speech, he wanted Trump to convince him that he would unify the party and reach out to people that didn’t support him, especially those who backed Cruz.
New York’s Republican delegation rose to its feet Thursday night as Donald Trump vowed to cut wasteful spending and appoint a conservative to the Supreme Court.
Republican candidates had pledged during the primary process to support the party’s eventual nominee.
Texas Senator Mr Cruz caused a storm on Wednesday night and later defended his decision, saying he would not be a “servile puppy” to someone who had attacked his wife and father. When Sen. Ted Cruz urged the audience to simply vote its conscience in November, the site erupted in loud boos and scattered applause.
Eric Trump, speaking on NBC’s Today show, said some people believe Cruz committed “political suicide”.
“Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities”, said Trump, confidently adding that things would change when he became president.
Trump and his aides have been unable to put to rest questions about whether they can mount a sophisticated campaign to take on Clinton’s well-oiled operation.
Lee helped lead a contentious but unsuccessful fight on the convention floor Monday to force what would have amounted to a protest vote against Trump. Marco Rubio, also addressed the convention’s third night, delivering lukewarm endorsements of Trump.
Trump will be introduced by his daughter, Ivanka, who will be charged with humanising her father and trying to appeal to women voters who may still be having second thoughts about presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“I am extremely disappointed (that Kasich did not endorse Trump) but at the end of the day he is our governor”, said Ken Jones, an OH delegate from Cincinnati.
As the GOP primary came down to the two candidates this spring, Trump and his surrogates attacked Cruz’s family.
