Cruz, Pence helped Republicans find some principle at convention

Then Trump appeared on stage with his vice presidential running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, to greet Pence, who had just delivered an enthusiastic speech in honor of the nominee.

“The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end”, he said.

He also declared that, two days after Cruz was loudly booed at the Republican National Convention for not endorsing the new nominee, he would never accept the Texas senator’s backing. Koerner said she was still deciding whether to support Trump, while another delegate, Darl Eaton of Eueless, estimated “95 percent or more” of the delegation was on the same page.

Addressing a raucous crowd in Cleveland, Ohio, on the final day of the GOP’s presidential nominating convention, the billionaire businessman and former reality TV star said the United States is facing a “moment of crisis” and vowed that his plan “will put America first”. In a speech that positioned Trump as the voice for the voiceless, Trump drowned out Cruz’s contentious call for conservatives to “vote your conscience”.

Speaking for well over an hour, he said the security of the country was under threat from Islamic radicals, undocumented immigrants and trade deals that failed American workers.

“We will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace”.

“We will be a country of generosity and warmth”.

Trump, who called himself “the law and order candidate”, went on to touch on his plans to “put America first”, his plans to cut taxes (“America is one of the highest-taxed nations in the world”, he said – a blatant lie), and how he wants to give up on global treaties, which he says have lost America respect in the worldwide scene.

Trump also launched a series of attacks on his Democratic Party rival Hillary Clinton, accusing her of keeping “our rigged system in place” and leaving “death, destruction and weakness” as her legacy.

The timing is aimed at shifting attention away from the end of Donald Trump’s Republican convention and generating excitement before the start of Clinton’s own convention next week in Philadelphia. During his daughter Ivanka’s speech, she stumbled repeatedly trying to say the word “ethnicities”. “It’s a powerful combination”, Steel said.

“Really, I expected a few Cruz holdouts on the convention floor last night”, Scarborough said Friday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”.

Trump assailed Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state and blasted a nuclear agreement with Iran that promised America “nothing”.

“Americans watching this address tonight have seen the recent images of violence in our streets and the chaos in our communities”, said Trump, confidently adding that things would change when he became president. “And his answer – more fear, more division, more anger, more hate – was yet another reminder that he is temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be President of the United States”, Podesta said in a statement.
