Cruz says Trump spreading false rumors about personal life
The Enquirer has a reputation as a gossipy supermarket tabloid that invents stories, but it did report in 2007 that then-presidential candidate John Edwards was having an extramarital affair, and later named the woman involved – all of which turned out to be true.

Reached for comment, a spokesman for American Media Inc., the Enquirer’s parent company, also denied that the story had been influenced by Trump backers.
The article in the Enquirer cites sources saying the Texas senator is facing allegations he had at least five affairs, including with a political consultant and a “high-placed D.C. attorney”.

Trump blamed Cruz for an ad, published by an unrelated super PAC, that included a suggestive photo of Trump’s wife, Melania. He accused Mr Trump and “his henchmen” for spreading untrue rumours that Mr Cruz cheated on his wife, Heidi.
But Trump didn’t seem to accept that explanation, re-tweeting a side-by-side photo of the two women Wednesday evening that used an unflattering version of Heidi Cruz.
OSHKOSH, Wisconsin (AP) – Ted Cruz accused Republican presidential rival Donald Trump of stoking false rumors about his personal life on Friday, charging that the billionaire businessman and GOP front-runner was trafficking in “sleaze” and “slime”.
“Likewise, I have nothing to do with the National Enquirer and unlike Lyin’ Ted Cruz I do not surround myself with political hacks and henchman and then pretend total innocence”.
At a campaign event Friday, Cruz told reporters that the attacks are bringing him closer to the point of denouncing Trump, 69, even if the business mogul does win the nomination. “Well, David is good friends with Donald Trump”. The smear has all of the hallmarks of a Trump attack on an opponent.
Trump threw more gas on the fire late last evening when he retweeted an internet meme mocking Heidi Cruz’s appearance.
“It’s not easy to tick me off. I don’t get mad often”.
Thursday afternoon the senator elaborated before a stop on his campaign suggesting that Trump is scared of women who are strong like his wife Heidi.
