Cruz sparks talk of restarting his campaign, but few think it’ll happen

Ted Cruz filed paperwork Wednesday to run for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2018.

Cruz returned to his day job as the Lone Star State’s junior senator this week amid huge media attention after quitting the presidential race.

For many prominent Republicans, a contested GOP national convention was the last hope for a nominee other than Donald Trump, and they were maneuvering to have a front-row seat to the gamesmanship.

Now, in seeking a second term, Cruz could have 12 years under his belt in the Senate, a place where many of his colleagues detest him.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was diplomatic when asked about Cruz’s return to the Senate, saying he was “happy to have him back”.

Some, like Rep. Jeff Miller, who represents the western Panhandle, have decided the real estate mogul has a clear conservative agenda worthy of support.

Sara Legvold, of Keller, said she isn’t so sure people will get on board with Trump.

“I signed a pledge, put my name on it, and said I would support the Republican nominee and that’s what I intend to do”, he said.

“I think if Ted has a future in Republican politics in this country, I think he’ll want to preserve that”, Trump adviser Sam Clovis said on CNN.

Cruz delegate chief Ken Cuccinelli said the campaign has heard from some of its delegates that they no longer meant to vie for slots.

Rubio’s comments come as Trump’s sudden status as the party’s presumptive presidential nominee have the campaign transitioning from a fierce primary battle to preparing for the general election, unifying support from Republican leaders and beginning the process of selecting a running mate. “If that changes, we will certainly respond accordingly”, he said.

“I would note, it’s not a choice we as voters have to make today”, Cruz said.

Rafael Cruz, the senator’s father, and Carly Fiorina speak Thursday night at 7:30. “Are you with me on this?” The conservative movement remains strong and vibrant.

“We cannot have another four years of Obama policies emulated through Hillary Clinton, nor can we have the White House controlled by socialist ideologies”, he said in a statement from his office. “The reason we suspended our campaign was that with the in loss, I felt there was no path to victory”, the former candidate said on The Glenn Beck Radio Program on Tuesday. He never mentioned Trump or his father, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, a frequent target of Trump during the Republican primary season.
